What exactly does thanksgiving mean to you?
Had you asked me this question ten years ago my answer would have been something like this:
Thanksgiving means turkey, Dad's stuffing, Mom's pumpkin pie, dinner with the family, Martini and Rossi......, Black Friday shopping, Christmas tree, decorating and christmas movies on every channel.
But today there I find myself GivingThanks for so many other blessings......
For the sacrifice's that our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ made on the Cross for us! For my salvation.
You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Rom 5:6-8)
So today and always my thankfulness is of a different nature, a personal thankfulness:
I am thankful for his mercy, his provision in our lives, for the guarantee of salvation.
For forgivness and love. I am still thankful for turkey, stuffing, pumpkin pie and dinner with family but it is a thankfulness for the provision of the meal that allows us to gather together and celebrate ALL that we have to be thankful for. In that sense we celebrate thanksgiving everyday.
"Then you will say on that day, 'I will give thanks to You, O Lord; for although You were angry with me, Your anger is turned away, and You comfort me'" (Isa. 12:1).
God Bless us Every One
Happy Thanksgiving my friends.
